Hi it’s me, Emma Laine! I am writing to let you know that I have finished my first year of school at The Little Light House and will be participating in my second annual Mini Laps Race.
My teacher, Heather, has increased my sign language vocabulary from about 12 signs to a little over 30 new signs. I have begun to share my voice, but I still prefer to communicate with my hands. I can now eat with a fork and spoon and drink from a cup with a straw. I am so close to being potty trained; my mom says she can’t wait for that moment. And to tell you the truth, plastic on the backside makes a girl “glisten” in a place that she would rather not! I still wear ankle braces but someday, with continued physical therapy, that will just be a distant memory.
TLLH is a school in Tulsa for kids like me, who have special needs. We have teachers, and therapists who are specially trained to help me learn the things that I need to know.
One of the greatest and most unique things about TLLH is that they don’t charge tuition. “All” the services are provided free of charge. TLLH relies completely on donations from private donors like my mom, dad, you, small businesses and large corporations. TLLH receives no money from the United Way or the government, and as you might imagine, it is very costly to operate a special school like this.
You can help me and all my friends at TLLH by sponsoring me in the upcoming “Mini-Laps” race. I get to walk around the track at my school one time along with all my friends-some of which will run or walk, some will ride bikes or scooters and some will ride in their wheelchairs or wagons. I hope you can come watch me and my friends on September 25th.
Your help will insure that The Little Light House can continue to help me and all my friends. If you would like to make a donation, you can give a check to my parents (made out to TLLH) before Friday, September the 17th. You can also send it in the mail or go to our website www.littlelighthouse.org. Make sure you note on the memo line my name Emma Wolf so TLLH will know you are sponsoring me. Because my school is a 501(C)(3) organization, your contribution is tax deductible.
Thank you very much for supporting me and my school!!!
