The Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center serving children with special needs from birth to six years of age. Laps for Little Ones is the longest-running annual fundraiser at the Little Light House, and has been an annual event for 31 years. Runners who compete at Laps for Little Ones raise money to help Little Light House students continue to receive tuition free therapy and special education services. Please support our Laps runners by helping them reach their goal!
Abby and Kamryn Baltzell
The Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center for children with special needs. For the past 37 years students with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, and many other developmental delays have received special education and therapy services completely tuition free. Please help support Laps for Little Ones by donating to our runners!
This year Abbie and Kamryn are going to run/walk in the 31st Annual Laps for Little Ones, benefiting the children of the Little Light House. Laps for Little Ones will be held at the Cascia Hall Track on October 24th at 8am. Abbie is a second grader and Kamryn is a first grader at Ator Heights Elementary. They are going to run/walk in honor of their little sister Alyx.
Alyx is 3 years old and has Down syndrome. In January of 2007, Alyx was placed on the waiting list for the Little Light House. In May of 2008, we got the phone call that we have been waiting for. They had placement for Alyx. Would we accept the placement? Of course we said yes!
When Alyx started school in August of 2008, she could sit up and crawl. We are proud to say at the end of her first Little Light House school year she was walking!
Alyx receives over $17,000 of speech, occupational and physical therapy at the LLH all for free! The Little Light House is a tuition free, Christian school for kids with disabilities. There is no funding from United Way or other government agencies, because there is no tuition. Not only does she receive her therapies, but she also learns a monthly Bible story, her colors, letters, and numbers.
Abbie and Kamryn love taking Alyx to school in the morning. And seeing all of the other sweet kids in her class. They also love going to the parent meetings and playing in the cool gym that the LLH has with some of the LLH students! But most importantly, they realize the awesome job that the Little Light House has done in helping their little sister and the other children that go to school there.
The Little Light House has been a blessing to our family. Not only have they been fantastic with Alyx, but they have also helped us teach Abbie and Kamryn about unconditional love and acceptance without even knowing it!
