Dear Friends and Family,

I hope each of you are doing well and transitioning smoothly into the fall season. As many of you know, I have had the privilege of working at the Little Light House (LLH) in Tulsa, OK for a little over two years. In that time, I have gotten to know the precious children who attend here, and I am continuously blessed by them and the joy they bring to my life.

For those of you who are not familiar with LLH, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you about this early intervention preschool for children with special needs. LLH serves children ages birth through five with a variety of special needs including but not limited to Trisomy 21, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, chromosomal abnormalities, heart conditions, and vision and hearing impairments. Here, the children receive both educational and therapeutic services at NO COST to their families. The staff includes certified special education teachers and certified physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, and vision therapist. These professionals work together as a trans-disciplinary team to implement the unique services LLH offers. LLH is a 501-C(3) non-profit organization that receives NO federal or United Way funding. It costs well over $100,000 per month for the facility to run on a day-to-day basis, and if families were charged tuition for these services, it would cost them over $17,000 per year. With the financial and emotional burdens families of children with special needs endure, LLH is committed to serving and loving them free of charge.

Because LLH is tuition free and serves sixty-four children at a time, a waiting list for LLH services has formed over the years. Of the little over two years I have worked here, I have been the Waiting List Coordinator for 1 ½ of those years. In that short amount of time, I have seen the waiting list grow from ninety children to over 130 children waiting in need of LLH services. That is approximately a THREE-YEAR wait, and because of this, some children age out before they even make it to the top of the list, as it operates on a first come, first served basis.

LLH has four major fundraisers per year, and the next one coming is Laps for Little Ones at which individuals run or walk as many laps as they can in a one-hour race for the children at LLH. If you would be interested in sponsoring me as a staff member, I am trying to raise money for this in honor of the waiting list families. The goal for LLH to raise at Laps this year is $150,000, and every contribution helps in reaching this goal. If that sounds like a lot, almost $300,000 was raised for our Mini-Laps fund raiser this year in a struggling economy, which goes to show that with God, all things are possible.

If you would like to support our organizing by donating, you can simply use the website or you can send a check to Little Light House at 5120 E. 36th St * Tulsa, OK 74135. Please remember to notate in the memo that it is for Lindsay Vroome’s Laps. All donations are tax deductible. If you have never been to LLH, we welcome you to come see this wonderful program. The next Guest Luncheon will be October 28 from 10:30 until noon. There you will receive a tour and a complimentary lunch, and you will get to hear from a parent who has a child with special needs. If you are interested in coming, please call and reserve a spot with the receptionist at (918) 664-6746.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter. I appreciate any support you can offer.

Sincerely,

Lindsay Vroome
