For the past 25 years, MiniLaps has been one of the largest fundraisers at The Little Light House annually. Families of the LLH students will raise money for their child’s year at school. This year, MiniLaps will be held September 25th, 2010 at The Little Light House. Please help our children by making a donation and help them meet their goal! William Baker
Welcome to William Baker's Little Light House Mini Laps For Little Ones Page!
Ahoy there mateys. It’s me, Cap’n William of the pirate ship, Mickey Mouse.
Avast ye now, and hear my tale. I’m sure that the last most of you heard from me, I was planning a trip to the South Pacific in a quest for Spanish doubloons. Unfortunately, I was keelhauled by my parents, who suggested that a three-year-old has many things to learn before he can fully embrace the adventures of the open sea. Thus, I’ve currently taken safe harbor at the Little Light House. Arrrr? You may ask. What is the Little Lighthouse? Why, it’s a safe port for many little lads and lassies like m’self who have special abilities. Special abilities? Like what? Well, I have cerebral palsy. My variety is called spastic quadriplegia. That means I can’t walk, my hands are uncooperative, and I also have trouble speaking. There are also other students with CP, downs syndrome, spina bifida, genetic disorders, blindness, etc. Most haven’t expressed an interest in being pirates yet, but I’m working on getting them to join my crew.
The Little Light House has lots of great teachers and therapists who work with me everyday so that one day I can become the best pirate ever – maybe even a space pirate like Han Solo. They’ve got lots a great toys too, that are built for just for us. I even have a walker that I get to use every day.
I originally thought that my parents would have to loot several Spanish galleons to pay for me to have access to the Little Lighthouse, but the most amazing thing is that tuition is free to all children who attend. When dad heard this, he was glad he could put away his cutlass and eye-patch. But how can they offer this? Do they get support from the government? Nope. How about United Way? Huh uh. Piracy? Absolutely not. The Little Light House is entirely funded by donations. Blimey, I thought. That’s amazing!
What does all this mean for you? Well, the Little Light House needs your help. If we all give a great heave ho and lend our financial support, the Little Light House can continue to be a port in the storm for many special children and their families.
So what’s this Mini Lap deal? It’s a fundraiser for the Little Light House. Each student “walks†around a small track at the school dressed in costume or on a small float. As preparation for that event, we each try to raise sponsors. So now, I’m asking you to sponsor me for this year’s Mini Laps. No amount is too small, but I do have a preference for pieces of eight.
When contributing, please include the name Cap’n William Baker on your donation so that I will receive your sponsorship. (That’s the only kind of “ship†I have, arrgh). You can mail your support to:
