For the past 25 years, MiniLaps has been one of the largest fundraisers at The Little Light House annually. Families of the LLH students will raise money for their child’s year at school. This year, MiniLaps will be held September 25th, 2010 at The Little Light House. Please help our children by making a donation and help them meet their goal! HOWDY, Abigail here – Watch out I am driving “Down to the Farm” at MiniLaps this year at The Little Lighthouse – Mark your calendars to come have a Hee Haw time – September 25, 2010 starts at 10:00am.

Do you know that I have been going to school at The Little Light House for TWO years now? This year, I am going to be in the Green class. I want to tell you all the great things about The Little Light House. Did you know that it is a school for kids with special needs, just like me? The grown-ups say it’s real important for us to start learning early. There’s even a list of kids waiting to come to my school…that’s how great it is. We have special teachers and therapists that help us learn what we need to know. Some of us need special equipment to help us learn and we all love the toys made especially for kids like us. Everyone is so nice and we have lots of fun together. I wish everyone could go to a school like mine.

It costs a lot of money to get all the things we need at our school. Some schools make the moms and dads pay for school…but not mine! I get to go there for free! My school doesn’t get any money from the government or United Way. All of the money we get comes from individual and corporate donors. Some grown-ups think it’s so amazing that all of the money comes from private donations. I think they are right.

I ’m too little to have a job to give money, but I can still help my school! On the day of MiniLaps I get to help raise money and I get to go around the track at my school one time. Ms. Marcia will say lots of nice things about me, and I get to show off how well I can walk and how cute I look in my cool country clothes (do you like my red cowgirl boots?). My friends will be there, too. The first year I was at the Little Lighthouse, I couldn’t walk around the track by myself, I had to use a walker, but last year I walked my teacher, Miss Heather, around the track, and this year maybe I will drive my tractor or ride my horse – I don’t know you will have to come watch and see how I make my Victory lap this year.

I need people to sponsor me when I make my lap, so I can help my school. I am trying to raise $5,000, and that’s a lot of money you know. If you would like to make a donation, you can give a check to my parents (made out to TLLH) before Tuesday, September 21st. You can also send it in the mail or go to my link on our website at http://littlelighthouse.donordepot.com/node/80. Make sure you tell them my name so they will know that you are sponsoring me. Because my school is a 501(c)(3) organization, your contribution is tax deductible…whatever that means! Oh, and if your company wants to sponsor me, they can get their name on our t-shirts or on a banner… Cool, huh? Thank you very much for supporting my school!

I love you all, Abigail Horne
