For the past 25 years, MiniLaps has been one of the largest fundraisers at The Little Light House annually. Families of the LLH students will raise money for their child’s year at school. This year, MiniLaps will be held September 25th, 2010 at The Little Light House. Please help our children by making a donation and help them meet their goal! Ava Urban
Welcome to Ava Urban's Little Light House Mini Laps for Little Ones page!
Dear Family and Friends,
It's me, Ava. I just want to tell you a little bit about my school, The Little Lighthouse, and ask if you would like to sponsor me in my upcoming MiniLaps fundraiser. Last year I proudly walked one lap around the track using my walker. Everyone was crying and clapping and cheering me to the finish line. Remember? My parents will sure never forget it They were really surprised that I could do it, because not too long before I could barely even sit or crawl. That was quite a feat for me. Some have even called it a miracle.
But this year I'm really going to show off. I won't need my walker at all! I will be able to walk all by myself around the track.
Maybe it is a miracle, but I have a secret. My teachers and therapists at The Little Lighthouse are miracle workers. Just last month my mom was crying happy tears as she read my yearly progress report, written by my teacher Miss Kimberly.
Miss Kimberly wrote:
- "At the beginning of the year Ava needed both hands held to stand up. Now she can walk independently."
- "At the beginning of the school year Ava did not take notice of the other children around her. Ava now talks and interacts with her peers.. She enjoys telling them to 'come' or 'go'. She acts as teacher in showing them how to do signs."
- "Ava follows directions to pick up items off the floor and place them in the bin."
- "Ava can recognize her name in print." - "Ava is now using a spoon to feed herself."
- "Ava has begun to use the potty consistently at school."
- "Ava points to familiar pictures in books."
- "Ava is a joy to have in the classroom, especially as she continues to demonstrate God's miracles at work in her life. She is full of life and loves to explore her surroundings and interact with others."
The Little Lighthouse is a school like no other because while it is a private school, my parents do not have to pay any tuition. The Little Lighthouse does not receive any government or United Way funding but rather is funded solely by donations from local businesses, members of the community, and by donations big and small from my friends and family members. That is where the MiniLaps fundraiser comes in. Would you like to donate? Would you like to come and watch me walk my lap? Mini Laps will happen on September 25, 2010 at the Little Light House track. The theme this year is Down on the Farm. I wonder what kind of costume my mom will come up with this time.
I hope you can help out by making a donation. Every little bit adds up and makes a difference in the lives of kids like me. My mom and dad say asking for donations is on the bottom of their list, but they will gladly make an exception for the wonderful ministry of The Little Lighthouse. My mom thinks it is the best place EVER.
And so do I.
Love,
Ava
