For the past 25 years, MiniLaps has been one of the largest fundraisers at The Little Light House annually. Families of the LLH students will raise money for their child’s year at school. This year, MiniLaps will be held September 25th, 2010 at The Little Light House. Please help our children by making a donation and help them meet their goal! Hunter Robinson
Welcome to Hunter Robinson's Little Light House Mini Laps for Little Ones page.
Hunter's basic diagnosis is Hypotonia, which is a disorder that causes low muscle tone, and Dyspraxia, which is a development disorder that affects the initiation, organization and performance of action; both of these causing her motor skills and strength to be affected greatly in her early years. It was also determined that she would need several surgeries to correct problems with her inner ears, affecting her hearing.
Hunter has gone through many procedures on her ears, along with a lot of therapy to get her up and moving due to the Hypotonia and Dyspraxia. Her speech is greatly affected by her ear condition.
A friend suggested that Hunter be put on the waiting list at The Little Light House. Her son had been a student at TLLH, and she told of all the progress and positive experiences he had received. Hunter started school there in the fall of 2007 and at the time, her speech and basic physical abilities were limited.
Today Hunter is NOT the same little girl who entered the doors of the TLLH 2 years ago. Although she has a long way to go in her development, she now signs, speaks, runs, walks into her classroom and is happy to be there. In the mornings when we are getting ready for work and school, she eats her breakfast and then starts bringing me my scrubs one piece at a time saying “school, school”. If I am not able to get ready fast enough for her she nearly has a nervous breakdown. We start for the door, and she begins her happy dance knowing she is going to school. Hunter is your typical 4 year old in the sense that she teases her sister, loves bubbles, and can’t live without Elmo.
I find so much peace, and joy in knowing that she is happy, and has the opportunity to go to a school that has such a loving, structured environment, filled with people who care. The progress that Hunter has made in the last 2 years is phenomenal, and there is no doubt that The Little Light House has had a tremendous hand in getting her where she is today, and I am forever grateful.
