For the past 25 years, MiniLaps has been one of the largest fundraisers at The Little Light House annually. Families of the LLH students will raise money for their child’s year at school. This year, MiniLaps will be held September 25th, 2010 at The Little Light House. Please help our children by making a donation and help them meet their goal! Hello again!

A lot of you know me and some of you met me when I sent you a letter last year talking about my amazing school. We are raising money for school again through our MiniLaps fundraiser and that is why I am writing (with Mom and Dad’s help)! I want to thank all of you that supported me last year. Because of your generosity and quick response, everyone was amazed that I was able to reach my fundraising goal in so short a time!

Now, I want to tell you some of the things that I do in school each day. My day starts off with my classmates (circle-time) where we sing songs and greet each other. I get special, one-on-one attention with a lot of different therapists throughout the day along with what I learn in my classroom. I work out in our gym (it has lots of fun things to do) and I get really tired some days because of it. I let them know when I take a nap even though they try to keep me awake! I have a vision specialist that helps me work on my tracking and focus. One of the really cool things that I got to use this year was a software program (retinal scanner) that knew exactly where I was looking on a screen and would say what I was looking at. When Mom and Dad were there, I used it to tell them I was thirsty and needed a drink! It was pretty cool.

Another one of my “accomplishments” this year that my teacher works on with me every day is drinking through a straw. Mom and Dad say that I am getting “too big” to keep drinking from a bottle so I am learning to drink through a straw. I know that sounds pretty simple, but it can be a challenge sometimes! My “trunk” (I call it my body) control has gotten much better. I can hold my head up as long as I want to, especially when I sit in my favorite seat, Mom or Dad’s lap. I can be stiff as a board when I want and that is what I do when my daddy gets ready to pick me up and throw me into the air really high! That really makes me laugh and smile (I guess that’s why he keeps on doing it). So, to sum it up a little, I am bigger (ask anyone that lifts me), longer (I am growing out of the equipment and my clothes) and stronger (you would think so too, if you saw me)!

If you are wondering about what the doctors say about me, all I can tell you is that medicine is a practice. Mom and Dad took me to a geneticist and he was “impressed” with my medical file. He said it was very thorough and recommended a couple of tests that have come back like everything else: Normal. There aren’t any more tests that doctors recommend (and that’s alright with me, because I was not born to be a pin cushion)! So, here’s what I need from you for me and my family. Prayers! We appreciate them and all the other support so much! And then, to keep going with the progress at The Little Lighthouse, please consider the next part of my letter and think about what you can do. Due to the “crunch” the economy is going through (I’ve heard my dad and mom say that), it is more important this year that Mini-Laps raises as much support as possible. That means it even more important that my friends help my school! Due to my age, this will be my last year at The Little Lighthouse and I will really miss my friends. My family and I were really blessed last year by the people that gave to the Little Lighthouse for me, and I need you to help again this year. Again, I know that any donation is a big one and we really appreciate it. There are several ways that you can be my sponsor:

One really easy way you can donate is to click on the "donate now" link on this page. If you want to mail a check to The Little Light House, their address is 5120 E 36th St.~Tulsa, Ok~74135. Be sure to include my name so they will know it is for my sponsorship.

Love, Benny
