For the past 25 years, MiniLaps has been one of the largest fundraisers at The Little Light House annually. Families of the LLH students will raise money for their child’s year at school. This year, MiniLaps will be held September 25th, 2010 at The Little Light House. Please help our children by making a donation and help them meet their goal! Solomon Siegel
Welcome to Solomon Siegel's Little Light House Mini Laps for Little Ones page!
Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you so much for stopping by Solomon's page to see what he's into now!! As many of you already know, Solomon Jordan Siegel was born September 13, 2007 with a condition known as Down Syndrome; which currently affects approximately 1 in every 800 children born. Since his birth “Solo†has undergone more than his share of surgeries and medical procedures, including an open-heart surgery to repair 2 holes in his heart when he was only 4 months old, but he has always come through with flying colors!
We are so very proud to announce that Solomon has just undergone another very long and arduous procedure -his first year of SCHOOL!! That’s right; last year he was accepted into the best school in the state for children with special needs. The only one of its kind, The Little Light House is so unique there is now a waiting list of over 150 kids, and it's typically a 2-3 year wait (Solo was on the waiting list at 1 week old)! Their hands-on curriculum is designed to teach children with developmental delays and disabilities the alphabet, numbers, words, and sign language and much more everyday! The school provides an amazing support and teaching staff of physical, occupational, speech, and vision therapists that are able to spend quality time with Solomon every day. He absolutely loves his school and there is no dollar amount that one could put on the educational experience! The Little Light House is providing to these phenomenal children.
The Little Light House invested over $24,000 last year and will invest over $30,000 in Solomon’s education this year, but yet this school is still tuition free!! They receive no government funding and no United Way support, but are supported 100% through private donations. We are both honored and humbled by the generous financial gifts of caring individuals like you (hint- hint, nudge-nudge :) that make it possible for our son to attend this “miracle making†school!
Throughout the year The Little Light House hosts opportunities to help raise the much needed financial support required to educate all of these amaz-a-zing children. The first event is a fund-raiser known as “Mini-Laps†At Mini-Laps each child gets to show everyone the milestones they have celebrated over the past year by making one lap around a relatively small track (hence the name). Last year the theme was “It's a Small World,†and some kids rode bikes, scooters, or wheelchairs decorated to represent different countries. Sporting a skullcap, prayer shawl, menorah, and a scroll, Solomon rode in a wagon-float representing the nation of Israel, but then climbed out to WALK across the finish line! It's really hard to put into words how deeply moving and fun this event is for everyone! You cannot help from being overwhelmed with pride for these kids as they make their lap and show how much they have overcome in their little lives.
Please come celebrate Solomon's milestones and miracles with us by cheering him on as he makes his very own second annual “Mini-Lap†on September 25, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at The Little Light House!! (Come early to get a good seat!)
We would love to see everyone out there, but what Solomon really needs is for everyone (yes, you too) to make a financial gift in HIS name to help his school to continue to provide these vital services to our children. The first 5 years are vital to their development and this school covers all bases.
