For the past 25 years, MiniLaps has been one of the largest fundraisers at The Little Light House annually. Families of the LLH students will raise money for their child’s year at school. This year, MiniLaps will be held September 25th, 2010 at The Little Light House. Please help our children by making a donation and help them meet their goal! Hello, my name is Jonathan. I love to give hugs. People tell me I am the sweetest little boy you will ever meet.

As most of you already know when I was born my parents were told by the doctors to let me go because I had so many health problems and my mom could always have more kids. My Mom and Dad said, “no, he has a call and purpose in this life. He is fearfully and wonderfully made and miraculous are His works in Jonathan.” They fought for the best care in a hospital in India. I was diagnosed with bilateral corneal opacities and told I would never see. I was also diagnosed with microcephaly, an ASD and VSD, a hearing impairment, and I was supposed to be mentally retarded, but the doctors were wrong because Jesus healed me from that. I got pneumonia when I was 3 days old, and had to be on oxygen for about 2 ½ weeks of my life. After coming back to the USA I saw more eye specialists. Had several surgeries on my eyes, and then diagnosed with congenital glaucoma on top of the previous diagnosis. Now, I can see light and shadows, but am considered legally blind. I still have the glaucoma and corneal opacities symptoms.

I have just finished my first year at The Little Light House and want to go back for a second year. My mom thinks the school is so wonderful that she wishes I could go here all the way through high school and graduate as a senior, but the school is only for 0-6 year olds. It costs a lot of money to pay all of the special teachers, certified nurse, and qualified therapists. They don’t even charge my parents anything, and there is 150+ kids on a waiting list. I am very blessed to have gotten a chance to go to this GREAT school.

Last year when I first got to school I only wanted to be held to someone’s chest or lie down. Now, thanks to the help of my teachers and therapists I can walk holding someone’s fingers. I trail the walls coming and going to music, Praise and Worship, and gym. I can sit on the floor without any help and play with a toy even though I still like to lie down and play. I use to slide out of my chair, lounge, or lay across my chair during circle time, snack time, and lunch time. Now, I sit up in a wooden chair at those times. I sit at the table with all my friends when we eat. My teachers separate my food into sections so that I can find the foods I want to eat. They help me to find my plate and scoop with my spoon as I hold it to eat. I am learning about new toys. I like to play ball with my eye specialist Mrs. Sherry and sometimes with my friend Mara. Two of my favorite songs that we sing at school are “5 Little Monkeys in a Tree” and “Where is Thumpkin”.

You probably know that the money to make my school tuition free has to come from somewhere. It all comes from people like you who want to see me and my friends reach our full potential. This year, The Little Light House is going to invest $26,000 into my life and success. On September 25th I will be making one lap around the track at my school. Last year I made the lap in my stroller, but this year I get to walk holding someone’s fingers. Would you please show your support and sponsor my lap? The Little Light House is a 501 c-(3) organization so your contribution is tax-deductible.

Thank you for your support!
